film noir proposal

for this assignment i will be creating a game cover and a poster.the four photo's i will be re-creating are:

shot 1: for the first shot i will use a woman and i will curl her hair and just get her too look at the camera sort of looking over her shoulder to create the first image. i think i will do it against a wall because there is no background on the picture its just black so when i add the effects the background will turn black. i will take this photo out in the hallway and i will take at least 3 photo's to make sure it looks alright before editing.

shot 2: for the second shot i will do it at home because i can find all of those items at home and i could just place them on the table to look ;like the picture and add the effects in Photoshop or use a filter on my phone, there is a noir filter on my phone so if it looks OK with the filter i wont need to edit it as much. i will take this picture at home because all of the objects are easy to obtain and use in my photo.

Shot 3: for this shot im just going to bring a small glass in and put something in the glass to make it look like whiskey and im going to use somebody in the class to be the person holding the glass and during the editing process i will black out most of there face. i will take this photo in another room so i can use a table and chair for the person in my photo to model. if there wasn't a table the person holding the glass would have to be still while i took a minimum of 3 photo's.

Shot 4: for this shot i will do it at home, i will use all of the props that are in the photo for my final film noir photo. Its easier to do this shot out of college because of the gun, i don't want people to think im carrying a real gun around.

Generic conventions

what does generic conventions mean? generic conventions are somethings that typically happen's in films. for example almost all western films use the iconography of cowboy hats, six shooters and horses to place them in the western genre.

Generic conventions in film noir: This gun is for hire (1942).

  • 40's clothes
  • Violence
  • Guns
  • Backstabbers

the lighting that is mainly used in film noir is the soft front lighting and hot back lighting to create shadows.

the main thing you see in a film noir is violence and alcohol. I think violence was popular in 1942 because violence was everywhere.

generic and non generic conventions for film noir:

for this task we only got 2 wrong and the rest we got right it is pretty easy to spot generic conventions of films. the two we got wrong was neon lights and lots of extreme gore and blood. there is a lot more violent in films from the 40's then there are in films now because people being shot on screen isn't really seen on screen today and woman were always being saved by men when now if a woman was in trouble she would save herself and not be discriminated for being a woman.
